Home Audio Players

I now and again question how I ended up enjoying music when all I owned was an AM transistor radio that just used batteries,  and a record player, where I could simply play one record at a time. The important thing for our house was when we bought our first stereo system.  There was a big chest-like box where you opened up the top and there was a turn table and next to it there is a radio with both AM and FM.  The turn table  had a device  so you might play a couple  records at one time, one would drop down on the other.  Trust me, it was major innovation rear then! There were two speakers, built into the chest., one for treble, one for bass pretty much like there continues to be now.

Needless to say, setting up this  great home stereo system was as simple as plugging it into the wall. With that you got AM and FM stations, you get two speakers, you get to play a couple of records at once, and just get up from your seat to turn the record over every hour.   My mom and dad could relax in our living room and utterly take pleasure in their  music enjoying experience, while  I could run to my  room and turn on my transistor radio, or my  record player.  One of the ways I learned to appreciate all kinds of music, and not merely the rock and roll of my time, was listening to my parent’s music while we were in the living room!

About the just thing that is the same these days about my home audio system is plugging it into the wall.  I have a receiver/amplifier,  that has a tuner, known as a radio, a tape player, which is basically out-of-date, and  a CD player that can play 5 CDs at once. I also have a turn table, formerly called a record player,  that is also connected to the receiver so I can still enjoy my records.

From the front, it all seems uncomplicated, you turn it on, push what you desire and it plays. From the back,  you will see places for the speaker wires to attach into the receiver.   Then you need to  get different wires from the  turn table to the receiver.  You have to learn the difference between input and output to get the wires in the right places.  There also is an bothersome antenna wire that no one really knows what to do with.  This is not like a computer where they design each connection a different size so you can’t hook it wrong if you tried. So you have to learn to read the labels on each connection.

If you want your TV to use you home sound system’s speakers, you have to make use of what are referred to as the auxiliary connections and attach wires from the  receiver to the back of your television, that has a whole different arrangement with red, white and yellow connectors and hope and pray that you connected them to the correct  red, yellow  or white connection.  While there, do not even ponder about how the TV is connected to the DVD,  the cable box, any video games, TiVo, and the wireless router.

When all is said and done, there I am at home in my  living room, listening to the same music I listened to on my parents old stereo and my transistor radio that is meant to be this quality HD sound. And my children are in their rooms enjoying to their own music– on  a few more contraptions than a little radio and simple box record player!
