The trouble with Rhinestones
May 11th, 2010 | by admin |Many people consider Rhinestones to be one of the most beautiful stones available. However, caring for that fine piece of vintage rhinestone jewelry is not as straight-forward as you may think. The biggest enemy is water. Yes, that’s right, water can quickly steal the gems luster.
To clean your gems you should use a soft bristle brush dipped in mild soapy water. Next, hold the gem upside down and brush very gently. Take your time here, it’s better to spend an extra ten minutes lightly cleaning, then to permanently deface you precious stone. Once you’re done cleaning, place the gem upside down on an absorbent cloth and leave it there for several hours. Making sure the item is thoroughly dry is a crucial step, as even a slight amount of water can ruin your stone.
